Land: marla, kanal and acre

In Pakistan and much of North India, land is measured in marla and kanal. One kanal is always 20 marla, but the size of a marla is not the same everywhere:

1 marlaSquare feet1 kanal
Government / revenue (patwari) record272.255,445 sq ft
DHA and many housing societies2254,500 sq ft
Some housing societies2505,000 sq ft

With the 272.25 sq ft marla, 8 kanal make 1 acre (43,560 sq ft) and 25 acres make one murabba (square). A sarsahi is one ninth of a marla. One square yard — a gaz — is 9 square feet. Always check which marla a plot is measured in before you compare prices.

Gold and weight: tola, masha and ratti

Gold in Pakistan and India is still weighed in the old units: 1 tola = 12 masha, and 1 masha = 8 ratti. One tola is 11.6638 grams, so 10 grams is about 0.857 tola. The older market weights are the seer (80 tola, about 933 g) and the maund (40 seer, about 37.3 kg).
